Diabetes EXPO – April 14th – McCormick Place, Chicago

The Diabetes Expo will take place on Saturday, April 14th! The EXPO is FREE and includes health screenings, cooking demonstrations, product and service exhibitors, as well as leading experts talking about diabetes research, management as well as ADA resources. Get the latest information on managing diabetes and its complications to help keep your family healthy.

Youth Zone Stage Speaker Schedule:

11:45 AM – 12:00 PMInsulin Research Updates – Dr. Anita Swamy, Medical Director, Program Co-Director, Chicago Children’s Diabetes Center, La Rabida Children’s Hospital

12:15 PM – 12:30 PMSafe at School Presentation and 504 discussion – Sarah Blenner, JD, MPH, Legal Fellow/Research Associate, Chicago-Kent College of Law

12:45 PM – 1:00 PMCamp 101 – Suzanne Apsey, Camp Director

1:15 PM – 1:30 PMSchool Walk for Diabetes – Ashley Oakes, School Walk Director

  • Visit the School Walk for Diabetes area for classroom inspired activities and coloring, a chance to play the Dance, Dance Revolution Wii Game (available for use by schools if raise the fund raising minimum) and learn more about how you can talk to your school about having a School Walk for Diabetes program.
  • Learn about healthy snacks in the Nutrition area! Pick up a healthy snack recipe and a free sample!
  • Check out the Association’s Youth Initiatives area, to find out more about our five diabetes camps in the Northern Illinois area and speak with the camp director. Learn more about the Family Link and Youth Ambassador program.
  • Safe at School and Advocacy will have information on the Association’s Safe at School program, as well as information about local advocacy issues and efforts. Learn tips from Sarah Blenner about how to talk with your school about your child’s 504 plan. Discover what the Students with Diabetes Act in Illinois means to you!

Also in the Youth Zone! Visit with Chicago Sky Guy mascot of the Chicago Sky Womens basketball team. The Association will partner with the Chicago Sky for another year of Dribble to Stop Diabetes!

And from 11 AM – 1 PM visit with Sparky, the spirited Dalmatian with soccer ball spots from the Chicago Fire. He and a Chicago Fire team player will be in the Youth Zone to talk to kids and take pictures!
